1960's Prom Dresses
1960's Prom Dresses -- A Trip Down Memory Lane To An Era Of Style, Innocence And Elegance

Don't we just love the stories that our mother or grandmother tells us about her prom night? The way she dressed, and how everybody at the prom adored it! Well, it's true -- the 1960's prom dresses were actually quite pretty. As a matter of fact, they were much more elegant and beautiful than the dresses made now.
Prom dresses made in the 1960's were often frilly and made the girls dressed in them look much more "lady-like". They were usually accompanied by long, over-the-elbow gloves that made the dress even more formal. One of the most famous prom dresses of the time was the Montgomery Ward 1964. This black and white 1960's prom dress was the perfectly contrasted dress made to look elegant. Plush black rayon velvet formed a dramatic bodice over the stark white acetate brocade and cotton bell skirt, topped with a satin bow belt. True elegance from a time gone by!
Another well-liked prom dress of the 1960's was the Nadine 1964. The dress came in two different shades: One, made of white nylon with sheer over covered taffeta, a bodice made of white lace and panel and bow at the back. The other -- made with a Dacron poly-sheath, dropping into a contoured empire waist and a shirred full back panel.
Even as the era of Sixties rocked to it's own beat, the prom dresses remained as feminine as possible. The 1960's prom dresses like the Montgomery Ward 1967 were a romantic scoop of rayon chiffon made of two tones to suit the gala affair of a prom night. With added cape sleeves, a satin band on the waist to flatter, the dramatic overskirt of the dress swirled beautifully while the girls waltzed. Lovely!
The Sears 1968 was known as an "empire-style" 1960's prom dress that was made of Venice type lace bodice, an acetate satin sash, a chiffon rayon skirt and a bow at the back. Teamed with an evening overcoat, this dress made the girls look like angels on the dance floor. With panels of chiffon and rayon floating over the acetate taffeta, this dress was fit for even a princess. An illusion yoke and lace sleeves made this dress one of its kind.
Finally, the McCall's 1968 was a melting rich velvet dress made to set the hearts of boys aflutter. This ravishing dress was encrusted heavily with an embroidery in gold. Slipped over a creamy lavish crepe skirt with billowing flamboyant sleeves, this prom dress of the 1960's was known for its stunning wide collars.
All these 1960's prom dresses were just fabulous. Not only did they make the girls look more elegant and lady-like but also gave them that angelic look -- a part of an innocent past that many today would like to recapture.
